Eden Prairie Democrats
(old Senate District 41),
is now the new
Senate District 49
Minnesota is divided into 67 Senate Districts, each of which contains 2 House of Representatives Districts (134 in all). Each Senate District elects one state senator, and each House District elects one state representative.
The new Senate District 49 (SD49) comprises all of Edina, the western part of Bloomington,
the northeast corner of Eden Prairie, and the southeast corner of Minnetonka.
The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) has a large number of local
party units corresponding to wide variety of election districts. Some,
like the new SD49 Democrats, correspond to
senate districts. In addition there are, or have been in the past, party units for
congressional districts, counties,
house districts, and even a few
precincts.
Our group has several key responsibilities:
Recruiting and endorsing candidates for State Senate and House of
Representatives from the SD41 area.
Working to elect Democratic candidates in our area.
Convening caucuses in even-numbered years for Democrats within the district.
Convening a convention in even-numbered years to endorse candidates.
Convening a convention in odd-numbered years to select
local party officials.
Promoting Democratic values within the district.
Encouraging civic participation at all levels of government.
We do our work exclusively with volunteers. Our
meetings are open to the public. We are Democrats!
